One common query that I see on newsgroups and mailing lists is about the families of soldiers serving in the 19th century. Shown below are two pages from the 18th September 1896 edition of the magazine Navy and Army Illustrated. This magazine is copiously illustrated with excellent photographs depicting life in the Army and Navy during the late 19th century.
