Size and description | The diameter of the medal is 1 7/16" (36mm). It is usually found in silver, but approx 110,000 were issued in bronze to certain Chinese, Maltese, Indian and other native personnel. The front (obverse) bears the head of George V, and the reverse has a man on horseback (said to be St George) trampling on a shield bearing the German eagle beside a skull and crossbones. Above the horse's head is the rising sun of victory. |
